Who We Are
We were born out of a digital marketing agency whose owners could not find an SEO tool powerful enough to add real value. We decided it would be better to just build our own. We are a company of problem solvers dedicated to finding solutions to help you have the best online presence you can have.
Why SyCara? The word “cara” is an old Irish word that means “friend”. We like to think of ourselves as a helping friend to you and your business.

Dan Boberg — CEO
A seasoned internet advertising executive, Boberg most recently was Vice President of Advertiser and Agency Professional Services for Yahoo! Inc. In this role, he was responsible for driving consulting, technology integration, Right Media deployment and custom solutions for Yahoo!’s largest advertiser and agency partners. He joined GoTo.com, the company that pioneered paid search engine listings in April 1999 (acquired after a name change to Overture.com by Yahoo! in 2003).
Named as one of B2B Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People Online in 2004, Boberg worked to drive Yahoo!’s industry leadership in key areas for many years. Boberg was responsible for the launch and ongoing leadership of Yahoo!’s Enterprise Web Services (EWS), a commercial developer program that enables programmatic campaign management via APIs of Yahoo! ad products including Sponsored Search and the Right Media Exchange. Prior, he served as General Manager of Yahoo!’s SEM business, which enables search engine marketing companies to streamline their work with Yahoo! to drive targeted sales leads to clients.
Boberg’s MBA internship was as a member of Microsoft’s product planning team responsible for developing the personal financial management software product Microsoft Money. Boberg received an MBA with emphasis in Marketing and Technology from the University of Southern California.
Thom Brodeur — President
As EVP, Venture Management, Brodeur nearly 20 years of startup and enterprise management experience to Tallwave where he oversees Tallwave’s portfolio of software, digital marketing and services companies. Brodeur’s responsibilities include vetting and selecting companies for Tallwave’s Venture Management group, and commercialization and capital development for portfolio companies. Currently, Brodeur also serves as president of SyCara, a Tallwave portfolio company specializing in Local SEO reporting, analytics and conversion solutions for the agency and aggregator markets.
Commercialization includes strategic planning, operationalization, and leadership development for portfolio company executives. Portfolio companies include: a leading digital marketing agency, a disruptive DOOH media company, a SaaS distintermediator in the CPG-to-C-store supply chain, and a leading-edge SEO tools company. In addition to his venture management responsibilities, Brodeur leads Tallwave’s Marketing efforts, and works with the CEO and leadership team on Strategy and Corporate Development.
Prior to joining Tallwave, Brodeur was the President and COO of leading women’s health social network EmpowHER where he led Strategy and Corporate Development, and was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company’s Product Development, Business Development and Marketing functions. Under Brodeur’s leadership the company grew to become an award-winning social health network, and the third most visited women’s health destination on the Web reaching more than 20 million women on-site annually, and over 100 million more through syndication. Brodeur led the company’s transformation from a digital publishing platform to the one of the largest vertical social networks in the health category, and was responsible for the company’s strategic partnerships with AOL, Yahoo! Health, Shine, Fox, Hearst Digital, HealthGuru Media, Meredith, SiriusXM Radio, Lifetime Television Network and others.
Before being recruited to EmpowHER, Brodeur served as COO at Help A Reporter (HARO) where he was credited with building the brand and transforming the company from a journalist-source listserv to a world-class online small business marketing, PR, social media resource and journalist-sourcing platform. His efforts resulted in HARO’s acquisition by Vocus (NASDAQ: VOCS), a major communications software firm. Brodeur joined HARO from leading global newswire and online communications company, Marketwire, where he was SVP, Global Strategy and Development. At Marketwire, Brodeur led the company’s expansion efforts in Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe through strategic M&A while spearheading the company’s Product Development strategy resulting in Marketwire’s position among industry peers as a leader in social media. Before being recruited to Marketwire, Brodeur was an executive with marketing communications giant Omnicom after selling his boutique strategy and marketing firm. Prior to that, Brodeur led marketing and business development for Bob Parsons startup Jomax Technologies, which later became GoDaddy Group, where Brodeur lead development efforts for the Company’s award-winning website development software WebSite Tonight®.
Brodeur graduated Youngstown State University with degrees in Economics and Political Science. He also attended The Thunderbird School of Global Management’s Executive Education Program earning certificates in Global Branding, and Finance for Global Managers.
Brodeur currently serves the Advisory Boards for Arizona-based startups GreenNurture and In Our Genes, and on the Board of Directors for the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits, and one n ten. Past Board service includes Member, Executive Committee and Chairman roles with The Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS, The Arizona Technology Council, The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona, Tech America (formerly the American Electronics Association), and The Governor’s Council on Innovation and Technology.
Jen Dorre — COO
With over 13 years experience in the search marketing industry, Dorre most recently was Director of Search and Ad Sales at Microsoft. Dorre was one of the key people in starting Microsoft’s paid search business. Most recently, she led Microsoft’s paid search and advertising sales team, growing Microsoft’s paid search business to over $300M in revenue. Prior to that, she led the launch of Microsoft AdCenter which included numerous innovations in paid search, such as demographic and geographic targeting. During her six years at Microsoft, Dorre also led product, marketing and sales departments. While at Microsoft, she won several top awards including the 2007 Circle of Excellence Winner & 2008 Consumer & Online Champion Award.
Prior to Microsoft, Dorre worked in product & business development at Yahoo! Search Marketing (previously Overture). At Overture, she led the roll out of the contextual advertising product. She also spent several years in management consulting at Price Waterhouse Coopers (previously Diamond Technology Partners), focusing on consulting to companies in product management and product development projects. Her largest project at Diamond was rolling out an Internet bank in Brazil for one of the largest commercial Brazilian banks.
Dorre holds an MBA from The Wharton School of Business and a BS in Computer Science from the University of California Berkeley.
Donna Kent — SVP, Marketing & Partnerships
Donna is Senior Vice President, Venture Development at Tallwave where she leverages extensive sales, marketing and entrepreneurial expertise to develop meaningful partnerships for Tallwave and its clients. Donna focuses on expanding Tallwave’s business concepts to support strategic acceleration practices and resource amplification. As Vice President and General Manager for Xerox, Donna spent 25 years managing a 350M P&L and 2,000+ employees across multiple business lines to test, develop and implement new products and services globally. At Televerde, Donna managed business growth strategy and integrated demand generation solutions, including leading the development of Televerde’s demand generation strategy, to align growth initiatives between sales and marketing for world-class productivity w increasing revenues from $8M to $23M in under 5 years. As CEO of the Arizona Technology Council, Donna focused on promoting and developing technology entrepreneurship and supporting women-owned business efforts in Arizona.
Bryan Ehrenfreund — SVP, Sales & Business Development
Bryan is responsible and leads all of SyCara Local’s sales and business development initiatives with a focus on driving the company’s acquisition of new customers, customer locations and revenue. Bryan brings a broad-based cross-functional sales and marketing approach to Sycara Local with expertise in sales, marketing and demand generation process to increase sales pipeline velocity and closed/won business.
Prior to joining Sycara Local Bryan served as Vice President of Digital Strategies for Televerde, a leading B2B marketing agency and provider of sales pipeline development solutions. Bryan was responsible for providing strategic leadership in the development, growth and implementation of Televerde’s demand generation digital marketing practice. Prior to Televerde, Bryan served as Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder at local loyalty marketing company ClipFree.com. Prior to ClipFree, Bryan held senior sales, marketing and operations positions with eNeighborhoods (acquired by Homes.com), Continental Promotion Group, AT&T Wireless Services and Xerox Corporation. During his 18 year career at Xerox Bryan held several senior sales and marketing roles, including Director of CRM Worldwide Marketing.
Bryan earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Hofstra University and a Master’s in Communication Arts with distinction from the New York Institute of Technology. Bryan also received certifications in Foundations for Best Practices in Demand Creation and B2B Lead Nurturing from SiriusDecisions.

Jeff Pruitt is Director of SyCara and CEO of Tallwave, a company formed in 2009 as a venture accelerator to drive digital marketing startups, among them SyCara. Tallwave provides early stage companies with business management, intellectual capital, marketing and sales support.
Pruitt formerly served as President of iCrossing from 2002-2006. He was an early driver in the development and growth of iCrossing, the largest independent search and interactive agency. Mr. Pruitt joined iCrossing in 2000 as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Business Development. During his tenure at iCrossing revenues grew from $2M to $100M.
He previously worked in the Audit and Finance Divisions at Arthur Andersen, one of the ‘Big Six’ accounting firms. Mr. Pruitt has an undergraduate accounting degree from Arizona State University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Pruitt serves as chair of SEMPO (Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization) and has helped drive the trade group’s initiatives in industry research and best practices education. He is also on the board fro the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. Pruitt is a frequent speaker at industry conferences including Ad:tech, SES, OMMA, and Baidu World in Shanghai and Moscow.
Robert Murray is President of Skyword. As President, Rob oversees the growth and expansion of the Skyword brand in the U.S. and around the world.
Before being named President of Skyword, Murray served as Global CEO of iProspect from 2009 to 2013 and President US from 2000 to 2009. During this time, he oversaw the agency’s acquisition of both Range Online Media and ICUC Moderation Services and led the company through its acquisition by Aegis PLC in 2004. Today the agency is part of the Dentsu Aegis network of leading digital firms that offer marketers comprehensive and integrated marketing solutions that span all digital marketing disciplines.
Murray was named to BtoB Magazine’s “Who’s Who in Search” for four years in a row: 2008:2011. He is a member of the board of directors of Aegis Media North America, and also serves on the board of the New England Chapter of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the Ad Club of Boston, and DMG(parent corp of ad:tech and iMedia). Murray regularly speaks at key industry conferences such as ad:tech, OMMA, Search Engine Strategies, and Search Marketing Expo, and he has been published in numerous media outlets including Wall St Journal, DM News, iMedia Connection, MediaPost, Target Marketing Magazine, and Search Engine Land.
Prior to joining iProspect, Murray was a consultant for Bain & Company. He earned a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Carroll School of Management Honors Program at Boston College.
Fionn is very involved in the advancement of search engine marketing and is a strong advocate for best business practices in the industry. She is past board member of the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization (SEMPO).She is a founding member and past chair of the SEMPO Institute which was launched to provide first class training for the search engine marketing industry worldwide. Fionn is a frequent speaker on Search Engine Marketing and is actively involved in the Search Engine Marketing community.She is a Search Engine Watch subject matter expert and wrote a very successful column called “The Business of Search”. She is an accomplished speaker on the subject of search marketing and search marketing training, and has spoken at ad:tech, Search Engine Strategies, SMX Expo, OMS, Arizona Women in Leadership Forum, Searchnomics, AMA, Society for women engineers to name a few.
Dave Carlson is the Founder and Managing Director of eonBusiness. Dave established eonBusiness in 1997 to meet the needs of start-ups and early development stage companies for building Internet based businesses. He has founded five businesses with three successful exits to date while supporting dozens of other companies. While eonBusiness started as primarily a web development services organization, it transitioned to an incubator and then subsequently a boutique venture capital firm investing in software as a service (SaaS) and mobile opportunities.
Dave also serves as a Mentor to the TechStars mentorship driven seed stage investment program.
In 2001 Dave founded and incubated GO TOAST and subsequently started eonMedia in 2002. Both companies were acquired in 2003 by aQuantive which was acquired by Microsoft in 2007. Other personal startups include eonBusiness, AllAboardToys.com (acquired in 2008) and HomePoint.
Prior to founding eonBusiness, Dave was a senior executive at EchoStar (DISH Network) for 12 years, where he was an integral part of the launch of the DISH Network and the initiation of EchoStar’s global business expansion. Dave’s EchoStar career included a six-year stint in The Netherlands as Managing Director of European, African and Middle Eastern Operations.
Dave earned a B.A. in Communications with a minor in Business Administration at Bethany College and a Masters Degree in International Business Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.
